LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS RECEIVE $277,860
TO FIGHT AGAINST BREAST CANCER

Komen Northeastern New York addresses unmet breast health
needs of area’s medically underserved

ALBANY, NY – April 27, 2011 – Thirteen local organizations involved in the fight against breast cancer can serve more people and save more lives thanks to $277,860 in grants announced today by the Northeastern New York Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®.

Grant monies will be distributed from proceeds raised from the 16th annual Susan G. Komen Northeastern New York Race for the Cure® held last October, other fundraising efforts, and funds received from the Susan G. Komen for the Cure national organization. Up to 75 percent of the net income raised by Komen Northeastern New York stays in the community to fund programs in upstate New York. The remaining 25 percent supports the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Grants Program supporting research, awards and educational and scientific programs around the world.

“Thanks to our sponsors, volunteers, race and walk participants and to everyone who made a donation, Komen Northeastern New York can work to keep its promise to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality of care for all and energizing science to find the cure,” said Affiliate President Nancy Sciocchetti. “For the past 16 years, Komen grants have been an important source of local funding for scores of programs that help the medically underserved in our communities, awarding $2.5 million in grants to organizations right here in Northeastern New York.”

Singer songwriter Kate Corrigan

has written and produced a song called "We Believe".
It is a tribute to women who have gone through
breast and ovarian cancers.

She is donating a portion of the itunes sales of this song to Camp Bravehearts. I am including the link to itunes so that you can listen to or purchase this song.
